OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Spacifix Success at the Pacific Music Awards:

A clean sweep and a Tui!

Spacifix’s members and management team are celebrating after an amazing night at The Pacific Music Awards which saw them take away Best Pacific Group, Best Pacific Song, and most impressively, a Tui for Best Pacific Album.

Although the band’s Tui will also be recognised at The New Zealand Music Awards in October, last night’s Best Pacific Album award for the debut album Much Love has marked the band’s coming of age.

As the delighted group strode onto the stage for the third time, vocalist Metui Finau exulted: “Big ups to the Spacifix fans, we are privileged to represent our people and New Zealand. Three years ago we were practicing in our parent's garage, watching Scribe, P Money, and all those guys moving on up, and we said one day, that will be us. Well, this is it! This is IT!”

Lead vocalist Tau Manukia thanked God, family and fans for providing guidance and purpose, and said “We represent creativity, youth, and a new form of Pacificness, which represents Pacific people in the right way”.

The band made a grand entrance to the TelstraClear Events Centre in their special tour bus, with music pouring from the loudspeakers and their name down the side in lights. When Spacifix’s members stepped out dressed in a stylishly eclectic range of clothes and colours, they added a vibrant note to the gathered crowd. One wore orange socks, another purple pants and hat, a third a green lace tie; formal suits were cleverly coupled with afros and personal style.

Pre-awards the band members were typically humble about their chances, but with nominations in three categories, Spacifix was obviously in the running to take home an award. Audience support was high, as demonstrated by the wild applause each time the dynamic sound and bright colour of a Spacifix video flashed up on the nomination screens.

Band Co-Manager Mike Penney said; “This is awesome, these guys deserve all the recognition they get. They are a great bunch, who care deeply about what they produce, and work hard together to make it the best it can be.”

Not content to rest on their laurels, Spacifix will be entering five categories at the New Zealand Music Awards, and will be keeping a space free next to their Best Pacific Album Tui.

Mike Penney explained that the band is in talks with marketing people in Australia, America and the UK, but continued “Right now we are strongly focussed on New Zealand. This is where our fans are and we are truly grateful to them.”
